Many actions are intended to educate health professionals including surgeons.
The patient has become actor of his surgery, and he is part of the surgical team. But who would want an ignorant person in their team? It is our duty to give the patient clear, understandable and non-partisan information whose aim is not the sole promotion of an institution or the surgeon.
This presentation aims to share with you our vision of an education book dedicated to patients. This booklet is the patient's essential companion during their care journey.
We distinguish three pathways of health, care and life during the 5 phases that are
1. Decision making by the patient
2. Preparation for the -H intervention
3. Day of surgery (Hospitalization H)
4. After Hospitalization H +
5. The return to mobility, “live it with”
This booklet presents many supposed advantages which will need to be clarified by an objective evaluation in the months to come.
• A harmonization of information for the different stakeholders. Nurse, physiotherapist, residents, family...
• A reduction in patient stress. The route is marked. The different stages of recovery are specified.
• The patient who finds most of the answers to his questions no longer needs to contact the secretary multiple times.
• Saving time for the surgeon during his consultation.
• Give to the patient the possibility to sign the consent in a truly informed manner.
Development in progress
• Other means of disseminating information, including videos on the Internet.
• The addition of QR code linked to post-operative self-rehabilitation videos (the 2 first post op weeks)
• Individualized versions considering the surgeon's practice.
Objective
evaluation of the service provided
This project initiated in French and for the knee (My Knee prosthesis and me, my patella and me...) now includes 14 booklets presented according to the same principles, They now include knee, shoulder, spine....
It is currently adapted for American patients in collaboration with Dan Washer. We present "My ACL and me".
