Shiyi Chen, MD PhD

Dr. Chen Shiyi is a founder, chair professor, department of Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy Surgery at Huashan Hospital, and the founder chairman, Sports Medicine Institute of Fudan University (SMIFU), Shanghai China. Dr. Chen also serves as a chair of China National Training Center for Arthroscopy Techniques, a director of ISAKOS Approved Teaching Center in Arthroscopy Surgery and Sports Injury in China, Chairman of Specialist Committee of Clinical Endoscopy Diagnosis & Treatment Quality Evaluation, Department of Hospital Management & Supervision, National Ministry of Health Administration, People Republic of China. He has been appointed as Counsellor of Shanghai Municipal Government, China due to his famous and contribution. Dr. Chen is a leading orthopedic specialist in China orthopedic sports medicine & arthroscopy surgery in knee, shoulder，foot and ankle. He graduated with M.D. Degree in Zhejiang Medical University, Hangzhou in 1982, and got Ph.D. Degree at Fudan University, Shanghai in 1998. He experienced several years of oversea special training in sports injury and arthroscopic surgery in Linkoping, Sweden (1996-97), UPMC in Pittsburg, USA (2000~2002), UNSW in Sydney, Australia (2003-2004), HSS in New York (2007), MGH of Harvard University in Boston (2009), S. Burkhart in San Antonia in Texas (2010), USA. He published over 400 papers including156 SCI research papers, 25 chief editor, undertaken more than 28 research funding projects, including National Science Funding of 863, 973 and NSFC, et al. He was also awarded the Distinguished Contribution Award of Huashan Hospital (2004), the 47th ACSM Awards (2000, Indianapolis, USA), the 9th Wu-Jieping Medical Research & Paul-Jassen Pharmaceutical Research Award (2007,Beijing China), the Science & Technology Progress Award of Shanghai (1994 & 2000)，CMA 2nd award（2019，Beijing China），China National Science & Technology 2nd Award （2021，Beijing）and so on. In 2009 and 2010, he accepted a China Leadership Award in Endoscopy in Hongkong, and an International Leadership Award in Endoscopy in Macau, the highest honor in Chinese Doctor Association. In addition, he has served as an editorial board member in AJSM, Chief Editor of AJSM (Chinese version) and Arthroscopy: the Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery (Chinese version). Due to his elite contribution in sports medicine and arthroscopy surgery in China as well in the world, he was awarded as the “Takagi-Watanabe Award” in Soul, Korea in April, 2017. He has got 1）the 2nd Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and 2）China Medical Science and Technology prize，due to sports injury research and development of new kind of Chinese artificial ligament. As clinical, he is not only one of the Chinese leading surgeon in knee, shoulder, ankle sports injury in arthroscopic surgery, but also very famous in the research of patellofemoral joint, synthetic ligament ACL Reconstruction, Shoulder Rotator cuff research, muscle healing promotion. He is also a world leading researcher in Synthesis ligament and application. He developed a Fudan University Shoulder Scoring（FUSS）and an arthroscopic surgical technique for massive rotator cuff repair using Long head biceps tendon augmentation as SCR which named as “Chinese way” by Dr. Johanne Barth. He has accumulated over ten thousands of cases of arthroscopic surgery. Over the decade years, he trained more than 720 arthroscopy clinical fellows from all over China. He has been ranked as a top 100 doctors plan in Shanghai (1997-2003), a member of Pujiang Talent Plan (2005) in Shanghai, a top 10 Orthopedic sports surgeon in knee and in shoulder in China for almost ten years. Dr. Chen is very active involved in the international and domestic academic societies, especially served as one of ISAKOS executive committee (2015-2017). In June 2017, he hosted the 11th ISAKOS-Biannual meeting successfully as congress co-chairman with Prof. Philippe Neyret, ISAKOS President, in Shanghai with more than 5000 participates from all over the world, almost 100 countries, which make him to win the world fame in Sports medicine and arthroscopy surgery. He developed a lot of Chinese membership into ISAKOS and spread the influence of ISAKOS over China. He also assumed a vice president of World Endoscopy Doctor Association, President of Asian Pacific Knee Arthroscopy Sports Society (APKASS, 2016-17, 2022-2024), President of Chinese Society of Sports Medicine (CSSM, 2018-2023) of CMA, Chinese Shoulder & Elbow Society (CSES); Past-president of Upper Extremity Sports Injury of CSSM, and Chair of Sports Medicine Committee of Chinese Academy of Orthopedic Surgeon (CAOS.2016-2023), Chair of Arthroscopy and sports medicine Academy of Chinese Orthopedic Association (COA), Executive Director of China Association of Sports Medicine (ACSM), et al. He is also a senior member of Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons (ABJS), past Chair of Membership Committee and Strategic Committee of ISAKOS, Liaison Chair of Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM). He led as a Godfather of APKASS-AOSSM Travelling fellow in 2014. He is also a chief medical officer (CMO) for Chinese Olympic Delegation in London and Brazil Olympic Games, and a medical consultant of the 7th World Military Sports Game in Wuhan 2019. He is the founder of medical team for F1 GP car racing in China as CMO for 16 years, and build China regulation of car racing rescue as a founder Chairman of FCAM medical committee as well as CMO of Moto GP of FIM, A1 World Car racing, FIFA and Olympic Football in China. As well, he serves as Chief physician for Mr. Liu xiang, Chinese Hero, an Olympic Hurdler Champion. He was awarded as a national honor of Chinese Sports Administration Bureau (2017-2021, China).
