Dr. Hideyuki Koga, MD, PhD is a professor at the Department of Joint Surgery and Sports Medicine, Institute of Science Tokyo. He graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1999 and earned a PhD in 2008 focusing on cartilage regeneration using mesenchymal stem cells. He became a professor in 2020. From 2008 to 2010, Dr. Koga conducted innovative research at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center on ACL injury prevention, employing advanced 3D video analysis to understand injury mechanisms. He continues his involvement in injury prevention as a member of the IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport and the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine’s Academic Advisory Board. Dr. Koga specializes in knee ligament surgeries, meniscus preservation, and double-bundle ACL reconstruction. He developed the arthroscopic centralization technique to prevent meniscus extrusion and is exploring its potential for osteoarthritis treatment to delay progression and reduce the need for knee replacement surgery. As a recognized expert, with over 200 publications, he serves on editorial boards for several journals, including the KSSTA, and contributes to ISAKOS Board of Directors, Members At Large, and APKASS board.
