Dr. Riccardo Cristiani, MD, PhD, is a researcher at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Section of Sports Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. He also works as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery at the Capio Artro Clinic/Stockholm Sports Trauma Research Center and at Stockholm South Hospital, where he collaborates with Prof. Karl Eriksson on complex knee surgery.
His main clinical and research interests include knee injuries, particularly ACL and meniscus injuries, as well as complex multiligament knee injuries.
He has completed several international fellowships, including the ESSKA-DePuy Arthroscopy Knee Fellowship (Luxembourg, with Prof. Romain Seil), the ESSKA-Arthrex Sports Medicine Fellowship (Fortius Clinic, London, UK, with Mr. Andy Williams and Mr. Simon Ball), and the ON Foundation Fellowship (ATOS Clinic, Heidelberg, Germany, with Prof. Rainer Siebold). He has also been a visiting fellow with Dr. Robert LaPrade at Twin Cities Orthopedics, Edina, USA.
He earned his PhD at Karolinska Institutet, defending his thesis “ACL reconstruction: subjective knee function, graft failure, and revision surgery.”
