2026 Meeting Faculty Details

Philipp W Winkler, MD

Johannes Kepler University, Kepler University Hospital
Linz AUSTRIA

I am currently the Head of the Knee Surgery Unit at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Kepler University Hospital Linz, Austria, where my clinical practice focuses on complex knee surgery, including primary and revision ACL reconstruction, meniscal preservation, cartilage restoration, and sports traumatology in general. My interest in ACL surgery and sports medicine began during medical school at the Medical University of Innsbruck, where I was inspired and mentored by Prof. Christian Fink and Prof. Christian Hoser. After graduating, I continued my orthopaedic training at the Technical University of Munich under the mentorship of Prof. Andreas Imhoff. A one-year Research Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh under the guidance of Prof. Freddie Fu, Dr. Volker Musahl, and their research team further shaped my academic career and allowed me to develop a strong foundation in both clinical and biomechanical ACL research. After returning to Munich, I completed my habilitation (Associate Professor). Throughout my career, I have been committed to combining clinical excellence with high-quality scientific research. I have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including the British Journal of Sports Medicine, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, The American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy. My work has been recognized with several scientific awards from ISAKOS, ESSKA, and AGA. I actively contribute to the international orthopaedic community as a member of AGA, ESSKA, and ISAKOS, as Associate Editor of KSSTA, and as an Elite Reviewer for JISAKOS. I am passionate about advancing ACL surgery through collaborative research, international exchange, and education, and I hope to contribute these experiences and perspectives as a member of the ACL Study Group.
